Oath of Office of Christopher Tappen, Deputy County Clerk, 1765
Transcription:
Ulster County Ss.
I Christophel Tappen Deputy Clerk of the inferior Court of Common Pleas and Deputy Clerk of the Peace and the Court of Sessions of the Peace in and for the County of Ulster Do Swear that I will faithfully & honestly, according to the best of my skill & Judgment demean myself in, and execute and perform the several Offices of the Clerk of the inferior Court of Common Pleas in and for the said County, And that I have not given or cause to be gave to George Clinton Esq. the Present Clerk of the peace, inferior Court of Common Pleas and Clerk of the Peace and of the Court of Sessions of the Peace in and for said County of Ulster nor to any other Person or Persons whomsoever any sum or sums of Money or any other Reward whatsoever either directly or indirectly to procure my Deputation or Appointment to said Offices from him the said George Clinton; And that I will justly faithfully & honestly preserve and keep All the Records Minits Papers Writings of what kind so ever that doth belong to either or every of the said Offices that have or shall here after come into my Hands & Possession; And the same and all and every of them will deliver & yeild up to the said George Clinton, when he shall require the same of me. So help me God.
