The Health Education Unit is a community resource which
works closely with all divisions of the Ulster County Health Department
and provides the public with general information about health topics.
Educational materials
A wide variety of health-related information is available
to the public. To request materials, please call or email HealthEd@co.ulster.ny.us
six weeks prior to the date needed. Please include your name, address,
the topic and number of brochures you require.

Special programs
The department receives periodic grants to fund specific
events and activities whose topics include tobacco, asthma, nutrition,
exercise and diabetes. These programs are publicized as they occur.
Statistical information
Local, state and national health-related data and health-related
indicators are available through the Health Department, as are materials
especially useful for students working on special projects and researchers
applying for grants.
In February 2007, the Healthy Eating And Living (HEAL- Ulster County) initiative was created by the Ulster County Health Department (UCHD) with funding from the Ulster County Legislature, through support from members of the Legislative Health Committee including Chair, Robert Parete, Charles Busick, and Peter Liepmann, and help from key individuals in the county, to help determine the scope of the obesity problem in Ulster County. Community Presentations
With advance notice, health department staff can often
provide materials and/or speakers for community events.
Referral Services
The department maintains a listing of health-related
services and resources available both locally and through toll-free telephone
numbers.
