Mental Health Association in Services: The Mental Health Association in Ulster County, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization chartered in 1959 by a group of physicians and concerned individuals to develop a coordinated citizen’s movement to promote mental health and to work toward improved care and treatment for persons with mental illnesses. The mission of the MHA is to engage all people in optimal mental health by providing innovative programs and services that heal, prevent, educate and advocate. To achieve its mission, the MHA sponsors a variety of education, advocacy and service programs, including but not limited to, mental health education, rehabilitation, residential services, family and youth support services, and family-based treatment. Specialty areas include adults with serious and persistent mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbances and their families, special groups. The Mental Health Association promotes mental health education and serves the socialization needs of persons with a history of mental illness or developmental disability. Programs include a recreation and coping skills program, parenting education, mental health workshops and seminars, information and referral, companionship programs, family and support training, assistance for self-help groups and in-service education and training for other human service providers. Payment for Services: Medicaid, SSI, and depending on the program, out of pocket fees are set according to ability to pay.
