BLANKET REQUESTLeisure Time Activities Aide  (Permanent, Less Than Half Time, Non-Benefited, Non-Competitive)

LOCATION:  Golden Hill Health Care Center

SALARY:  $11.91 Per Hour        GRADE:  3

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENTApril 16, 2010 - December 31, 2010

DISTINGUISHED FEATURES OF THE CLASS  This is non-technical work involving responsibility for assisting in the conduct of a varied program of diverse, meaningful and other normal leisure time activities with residents in the health care facility which are not required to be performed by professional activities personnel.  Incumbents may also be required to carry out routine housekeeping and helper tasks as assigned.  The position is similar to other non-professional positions in the health care field such as Occupational Therapy Aide or Physical Therapy Aide, but is concerned primarily with functions of the activities program.  The work is performed under direct supervision.  Supervision of the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class.  Does related work as required.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Ability to acquire a working knowledge of basic arts, crafts, games, sports, hobbies and other normal leisure time activities used in a health care facility; ability to stimulate and maintain residents participation and interest in the facility's leisure time activities program; ability to acquire a working knowledge of the problems and attitudes of ill, aged and handicapped persons; ability to work with volunteers; ability to maintain simple records and reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSNo formal training is required; however, candidates must possess the ability to read and write. In addition, a knowledge of arts and crafts is preferred.

 

Note: Depending on the position being filled, possession of an appropriate New York State driver's license may be required at time of appointment.

 

Special Note:  When employed at the Golden Hill Health Care Center, in accordance with the New York Department of Health Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) program, it is required that a CHRC be obtained for any non-licensed prospective employees who will provide care or supervision to residents. Such employees will be considered as temporary employees when hired, until such time as the CHRC is completed and the employee’s background check is cleared, then the employees may become permanent.
