JOB VACANCY: Building Trades Worker (Temporary, Full Time, Benefited, Non-Competitive Class) LOCATION: Ulster County Public Works, Division of Buildings & Grounds SALARY: $15.42 Per Hour FILL DATE: 11/29/2007 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This class involves the performance of journeyman level skilled work requiring a thorough knowledge of all aspects of one or more of the building construction or maintenance trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry or electrical repair, maintenance and installation. General instructions are received for work assignments and the employee is permitted wide leeway in planning and executing the work. This class is distinguished from other building maintenance classes in that an employee in this class must possess journeyman level knowledges and skills in one or more of the construction or maintenance trades and must be able to work without supervision when performing work within his/ her specialty. Supervision may be exercised over Building Maintenance Workers or other maintenance personnel when engaged in work associated with his/ her trade specialty. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience as a journeyman trades worker in one of the building construction or maintenance trades. Note: A journeyman trades worker for purposes of these qualifications is defined as an individual who has completed an apprenticeship program working under the direction of a skilled tradesworker; or an individual who has worked as a helper or assistant to a skilled tradesworker for a minimum of four (4) years. Advanced specialized formal training may be substituted for the required four (4) years of experience on a year-for-year basis; however, in no case may training be substituted for the one year of required journeyman level experience described in the minimum qualifications.
