JOB VACANCY: Road Maintenance Leader (Permanent, Benefited, Non-Competitive, Full-Time) LOCATION: Department of Public Works - Highways & Bridges (Western Tier - Ulster Heights) SALARY: $16.65 Per Hour / Grade DPW 6 FILL DATE: 01/28/2010 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
OF THE CLASS:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: .Good
knowledge of safety procedures; working knowledge of modern road construction,
maintenance and repair practices; working knowledge of the tools, equipment
and materials used in road construction and maintenance work; ability to plan
and supervise the work of others; ability to understand and carry out oral and
written instructions; ability to read and work from rough sketches or
blueprints; ability to keep simple records and make work reports;
dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two
(2) years of experience in the construction and maintenance of roads. Special
Requirement:
Possession
of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's license appropriate for the
equipment being operated. Special
Note: In
accordance with Federal Highway Administration (HWA) 49CFR382, all prospective
employees will undergo drug/alcohol testing prior to appointment and will
undergo random drug/alcohol testing during the course of employment. Special
Requirement for Positions in Ulster County Department of Public Works:
Candidates for employment in this position, on an open-competitive basis, must
possess a valid NYS Class B (CDL) License with “X” endorsement, at time of
appointment. Candidates for employment in this position, on a promotional basis, must be eligible for NYS Class B (CDL) License with “X” endorsement, at time of appointment, and must possess such license by the end of their probationary term.
Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice System or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check. This position will require a criminal background check and a candidate will be required to complete and sign a Criminal Background Investigation Release Form. Upon a conditional employment offer, a candidate will be required to be fingerprinted accordingly.
