
Sheriff’s Patrol units are equipped with mobile computer scanners and software which allow deputies to electronically scan driver’s licenses, issue tickets and electronically complete and file accident reports, known as “TraCS” (Traffic and Criminal Software). The goal of TraCS is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on Ulster County roads.
The TraCS program produces traffic tickets, and/or accident reports, including associated documents such as supporting depositions, in the Sheriff’s Patrol unit using an existing Mobile Data Computer (laptop), and a hand-held scanner, and an armrest-mounted inkjet printer. The “electronic ticket” and/or “electronic accident report” can be electronically transmitted to the Dept. Of Motor Vehicles and to local courts capable of receiving the data.
The TraCS program contains a host of other benefits beyond improving highway safety statistical data:
