ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES FILING OF ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT FOR FISCAL YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2010

Kingston, NY- Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announced that Ulster County Commissioner of Finance Paul J. Hewitt completed and filed the 2010 Ulster County Annual Financial Report with the New York State Comptroller on April 29, 2011. “In 2010 we instituted the Taxpayer First Initiative to close a significant budget gap and deliver a 2011 budget with no County property tax increase,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein. “I have made it my top priority to protect the residents of Ulster County from government overspending and waste.

LLOYD AMERICAN LEGION POST 193 HONORS COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE HEIN AND COUNTY CLERK FOR THE F.A.V.O.R. VETERANS DISCOUNT PROGRAM

Highland -- Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack both received awards from the Lloyd American Legion Post 193 last week. The two were honored at a meeting at the Legion Hall where Lloyd American Legion Commander Vito Dispensa presented them each a plaque honoring their commitment to Ulster County veterans. Today there are 199 businesses which have signed on to the “Return the F.A.V.O.R (Find & Assist Veterans of Record) Veterans Discount program and there are 1,178 veterans participating in the program.. RECRUIT NY OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND IN ULSTER COUNTY

Kingston, N.Y. -- The Ulster County Recruitment and Retention campaign, designed to bolster the ranks of the volunteer fire and emergency medical services, is partnering with the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) in their Recruit NY program. A focal point of this program is an open house event at local fire stations and ambulance squad buildings during the weekend of April 9-10, 2011. “I’m pleased that we are helping volunteer fire departments and rescue squads with their recruitment efforts,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.

COUNTY EXECUTIVE ISSUES FIRST VETO

Kingston, NY- Ulster County Executive Mike Hein issued his first veto today. On March 15, 2011, the Ulster County Legislature unanimously passed Resolution No. 75 entitled, “Authorize the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature to Create an Ulster County Charter Revision Commission”. Unfortunately, the resolution was legally flawed and after consultation with the County Attorney, County Executive Hein had no choice but to issue this veto. “As County Executive, one of my sworn duties to protect the integrity of the Ulster County Charter,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.
